Mike Bennett

Michael Bennett was born on May 16, 1985, in Carver, Massachusetts. A 2003 graduate of Carver High School, Bennett made his professional wrestling debut in 2002. His early career saw him competing on the independent circuit, including appearances for the East Coast Wrestling Association, New England Wrestling Association, and Eastern Pro Wrestling. In 2004, he won the NEWA Heavyweight Championship, marking an early milestone in his wrestling journey. He also wrestled for Northeast Wrestling (NEW) and Squared Circle Wrestling (2CW), securing victories and establishing his presence in regional promotions. In a match for the Northeast Wrestling (NEW) promotion in March 2010, Bennett was a participant in a five-way match for the NEW Heavyweight Championship, which was won by Matt Taven. Bennett, accompanied by Maria Kanellis, also appeared on WWE Heat in 2007, facing Cryme Tyme.

Bennett’s career progressed with a significant run in Ring of Honor (ROH), where he debuted in 2008 and signed a one-year contract in 2010. He gained recognition by winning the 2011 Top Prospect Tournament. Forming a notable alliance known as The Kingdom with Matt Taven and Maria Kanellis, he achieved the ROH World Tag Team Championship in 2015. Through ROH’s partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Bennett and Taven also secured the IWGP Tag Team Championship in 2015. After leaving ROH in late 2015, Bennett joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in early 2016, where he became a one-time TNA X Division Champion. Mike Bennett was listed as one of the top 75 wrestling bodies in the world by Muscle Men in 2010.

In 2017, Bennett transitioned to WWE, where he wrestled under the name Mike Kanellis, appearing alongside his wife Maria Kanellis. During his tenure, he held the WWE 24/7 Championship twice. Following his departure from WWE in 2020, Bennett returned to the independent circuit and subsequently to ROH and Impact Wrestling, which became Impact! Wrestling. He notably rejoined Matt Taven in The Kingdom, winning the Impact World Tag Team Championship in 2022. Bennett and his long-term tag team partner, Matt Taven, also teach at a wrestling school in West Warwick, Rhode Island. In October 2022, Bennett began appearing in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and its sister promotion, Ring of Honor, continuing his tag team success by winning the ROH World Tag Team Championship for a third time in December 2023. These various affiliations demonstrate Bennett’s adaptability and consistent performance in the professional wrestling landscape.
