Mike Myers

Mike Myers is a global star, having achieved world fame during the 1990s with his starring roles in Wayne’s World and the era-defining trilogy Austin Powers movies. He also voiced the title character of Shrek in all four of the franchise’s movies. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is much-decorated in his native Canada, being named an Officer of the Order of Canada, an inductee of the Canada Walk of Fame, and featured on a Canadian postage stamp. He semi-retired from acting a decade ago but has made occasional forays back in front of the camera, with small roles in the likes of Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Myers began acting as a child during the 1970s. The formative years of his career included a spell in London, where he helped to form the Comedy Store Players group with the likes of Paul Merton. After returning to Canada, he moved to the United States where he got his big-time breakthrough performing sketches on Saturday Night Live. One of the characters from these sketches became the star of Wayne’s World, which was released in 1992 and became one of the biggest films of the early 1990s. In 1997, he starred in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, which led to a sequel, The Spy Who Shagged Me, which became one of the most iconic films of the late 1990s.

During the 2000s, Myers voiced the lead character in Shrek, which became a huge family hit and won the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. The AFI would later name the first Shrek film as one of the ten greatest American animated films ever made.
