Morena Baccarin

Morena Silva de Vaz Setta Baccarin was born on June 2, 1979, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her artistic background stems from her mother, actress Vera Setta, and her father, journalist Fernando Baccarin. At the age of 10, Baccarin relocated to New York City with her family, where she later attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She continued her education at the esteemed Juilliard School, participating in the drama division’s Group 29 from 1996 to 2000. Her early career included theatrical work, notably as Natalie Portman’s understudy in a Central Park production of “The Seagull.” Baccarin’s initial film roles included the improvised fashion-world comedy “Perfume” (2001) and a lead in “Way Off Broadway” (2001).

Baccarin gained significant recognition in the early 2000s for her work in television. She captivated audiences as Inara Serra in Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi series “Firefly” (2002–2003), a role she reprised in the subsequent film “Serenity” (2005). Her career continued to flourish with a notable recurring role as the adult Adria in the 10th season of “Stargate SG-1” (2006–2007) and its movie sequel “Stargate: The Ark of Truth” (2008). She took on the lead as Anna, the alien leader, in ABC’s series “V” (2009–2011). A significant turning point came with her role as Jessica Brody in Showtime’s critically acclaimed drama “Homeland” (2011–2013), for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2013.

Her career continued with diverse roles, including Dr. Leslie Thompkins in the Fox series “Gotham” (2015–2019) and Vanessa Carlysle in the successful superhero films “Deadpool” (2016) and “Deadpool 2” (2018), and “Deadpool & Wolverine” (2024). Baccarin expanded into voice acting for various animated projects and video games, such as “Justice League Unlimited.” In recent years, she has also taken on production roles, serving as an executive producer for “Elevation” (2024) and producer for “The Endgame” (2022). Beyond her acting career, Baccarin is an active advocate for refugees, working with the International Rescue Committee and contributing to projects like Flores Exhibits.
