Myles Lorenz Garrett was born on December 29, 1995, in Arlington, Texas. He attended Martin High School, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. In football, he recorded 19.5 sacks as a senior and was awarded the 2013 Landry Award, recognizing him as the top high school player in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Rated as a five-star recruit, Garrett committed to play college football at Texas A&M University in October 2013.
At Texas A&M, Garrett quickly made an impact, breaking the Aggies’ freshman sack record with 11.5 sacks in 2014 and surpassing Jadeveon Clowney’s SEC freshman sack record. His collegiate career continued with significant achievements, including leading the SEC with 12.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2015, which earned him First-team All-American honors. Despite being limited by injuries during his junior year in 2016, where he still recorded 8.5 sacks, Garrett received Unanimous Consensus All-American recognition. He concluded his college career with 32.5 sacks, 48.5 tackles for loss, and 7 forced fumbles.
Garrett was selected as the first overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, marking him as the highest draft pick from Texas A&M in NFL history. He signed a four-year, $30.41 million contract. Despite missing the first four games of his rookie season due to an ankle injury, he quickly showcased his talent, recording two sacks in his debut game. Over the following years, Garrett consistently performed at an elite level, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors. Notably, in 2023, he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, leading one of the league’s top defenses. He subsequently signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns in March 2025, solidifying his long-term commitment to the team.
