Nassir Shamai Little was born on February 11, 2000, in Pensacola, Florida. His basketball journey began showcasing exceptional talent early in his high school career. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Oakleaf High School before transferring to Orlando Christian Prep. At Orlando Christian Prep, Little led his team to consecutive Florida state championships in his junior and senior years (2016-2018). His individual prowess was recognized when he was named MVP of both the McDonald’s All-American Game in 2018, where he scored 28 points, and the Jordan Brand Classic, making him only the second player alongside LeBron James to achieve this dual honor. Little was highly regarded as a top prospect, ranked as the second-best high school player of 2018 by Rivals.
Little committed to the University of North Carolina, joining the Tar Heels in 2017. During his freshman season (2018-2019), he demonstrated significant potential, averaging 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. A notable performance included a career-high 23 points against Virginia Tech. Following his freshman year, Little declared for the 2019 NBA Draft, where he was projected as a first-round selection. His professional career began when he was drafted 25th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers on June 20, 2019, officially signing with the team on July 1, 2019. Over four seasons with the Trail Blazers, he showed growth, recording a career-high 30 points in February 2021. He later signed a four-year, $28 million contract extension with the team in October 2022.
In September 2023, Little was traded to the Phoenix Suns as part of a significant three-team deal involving Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday. He played one season for the Suns before being waived in August 2024. Subsequently, he signed with the Miami Heat in September 2024, followed by a stint with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA G League, where he averaged 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 32 appearances. In July 2025, Little expanded his career internationally by signing with the Chiba Jets of the Japanese B.League, continuing his professional basketball journey.
