Neale Donald Walsch was born on September 10, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was raised Catholic by a family who supported his interest in spiritual truth, leading him to informally study comparative theology over many years. Prior to achieving widespread recognition as an author, Walsch held various roles, including radio station program director, newspaper managing editor, and positions within marketing and public relations. These early career experiences provided him with a broad understanding of communication and public engagement.
In the early 1990s, Walsch encountered significant personal challenges, including a fire that resulted in the loss of his possessions, the dissolution of his marriage, and a car accident that caused a broken neck. These events led to a period of homelessness, during which he resided in a tent outside Ashland, Oregon, and collected recyclables to sustain himself. Walsch’s life took a significant turn with the publication of his first book, “Conversations with God,” in 1995.
