Nikki M James

Nikki M. James, born on June 3, 1981, in Summit, New Jersey, began her professional career at age 13 with commercials and voice-overs. She pursued her passion for theater at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, earning a BFA in drama. Her Broadway debut was in “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” She later played a leading role in “House of Flowers” for City Center’s Encores! Series and originated the role of Lorraine in the Broadway production of “All Shook Up.” Her early career also included performances alongside Phylicia Rashad in Michael John La Chiusa’s “Bernarda Alba” at Lincoln Center Theatre and as Dorothy in “The Wiz” at the La Jolla Playhouse, for which she received a 2006 Craig Noel Award.

Her career continued with classical theater at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, where she played Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet” and starred opposite Christopher Plummer in Shaw’s “Caesar and Cleopatra.” A significant milestone occurred when she originated the role of Nabalungi in “The Book of Mormon,” for which she received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2011. Following this, she took on the role of Eponine in the 2014 Broadway Revival of “Les Miserables” and portrayed Portia and Viola in Shakespeare in the Park productions of “Julius Caesar” and “Twelfth Night,” respectively.

Beyond the stage, Nikki M. James has established a notable presence in television and film. Her acting credits include roles in “Law & Order,” “30 Rock,” “The Good Wife,” and more recently, “Severance” (2022) as Alexa and the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” (2025) as Kirsten McDuffie. She has also expanded her career into directing, taking on episodes for television series such as “The Good Fight” (2021-2022) and “The Bite” (2021). She performed her solo cabaret show at venues such as Carnegie Hall and NJPAC.
