Nuno Gomes is a former professional football player from Portugal and was one of the countries most recognisable players in the 1990s and 2000’s. He played and consistently scored for country and club. The bulk of his career was spent playing with Benfica, but he also played for Fiorentina, Boavista and at the end of his career, Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town and Leicester City.
Gomes represented Portugal in two World Cups and three European Championships. He helped the national team finish second at the Euros in 2004 and third at the Euros in 2000. He has been able to share his knowledge, as he has worked as a commentator during large football championships – such as the UEFA Champions League for Portuguese television. Gomes is an Amnesty International spokesperson fighting for human rights and believes that football is a human right.
