Omar Gonzalez began his professional soccer journey after an impressive college career with the Maryland Terrapins, where he was recognized as an All-American and won the 2008 College Cup. Drafted third overall by the LA Galaxy in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, Gonzalez made an immediate impact, earning the MLS Rookie of the Year award. Over his seven seasons with the Galaxy, he played 180 regular-season matches and was instrumental in securing three MLS Cup titles in 2011, 2012, and 2014, showcasing his defensive prowess and leadership on the field.
In 2012, Gonzalez took his talents to Europe on loan to 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga, although his stint was cut short due to an injury. His contributions were pivotal in the Galaxy’s continued success, and he was named MVP of the 2012 MLS Cup, further solidifying his reputation as a top defender.
After leaving the Galaxy in 2015 for Liga MX club Pachuca, Gonzalez quickly adapted to the new league, helping his team win the Liga MX championship in his first season. His journey continued with stints at Atlas and Toronto FC, where he made significant contributions, including scoring goals and providing assists, before moving to the New England Revolution in 2021.
On the international stage, Gonzalez has been a key player for the United States Men’s National Team since 2010, participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and multiple CONCACAF Gold Cups, where he helped secure victories in 2013 and 2017.
