Mahomes was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft. After a backup rookie season, he became the starting quarterback in 2018, delivering a remarkable performance with 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns. He became only the second NFL player to achieve both in a single season, earning NFL Offensive Player of the Year and NFL Most Valuable Player awards. His leadership culminated in the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl title in 50 years at Super Bowl LIV (2019 season), earning him Super Bowl MVP.
In 2020, Mahomes signed the largest contract in professional sports history and was recognized as Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. Mahomes continued building his legacy, leading the Chiefs to consecutive Super Bowl victories in Super Bowl LVII (2022 season) and Super Bowl LVIII (2023 season), earning MVP honors for both championships. These wins cemented his status as one of only five NFL quarterbacks to secure three or more Super Bowls. He earned six Pro Bowl selections (2018-2023 seasons) and multiple All-Pro honors, leading the NFL in passing yards (2022) and passing touchdowns (2018, 2022).
He holds NFL records as the fastest to reach 30,000 career passing yards (2024) and 200 career passing touchdowns (2023). Beyond his on-field achievements, Mahomes has expanded his influence through significant investments in professional sports franchises including the Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City.
