Patrick Lavon Mahomes II was born on September 17, 1995, in Tyler, Texas. He attended Whitehouse High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. His multisport background, particularly his experience in pitching, is credited with developing his unique quarterback skills, such as arm strength and the ability to improvise in the pocket. Mahomes played college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where he distinguished himself as a top passer. In 2016, his junior year, he led the NCAA Division I FBS in passing yards and total touchdowns, earning the Sammy Baugh Trophy. He also set NCAA FBS records for single-game total offense with 819 yards and tied the record for single-game passing yards with 734.
Mahomes was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft. After spending his rookie season as a backup, he took over as the starting quarterback in 2018. That year, he had an outstanding season, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, becoming only the second player in NFL history to achieve both milestones in a single season. He received the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and NFL Most Valuable Player awards. Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl title in 50 years in Super Bowl LIV (2019 season), where he was named Super Bowl MVP.
