Paula Patton

Paula Patton was born on December 5, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. Her early life was influenced by her parents, a schoolteacher and a lawyer, and her proximity to the 20th Century Fox lot fostered an early interest in film. Patton attended Hamilton Magnet Arts High School, where she participated in school plays. She later pursued film studies at the University of Southern California through a summer program. Her initial career path involved documentary filmmaking, securing a three-month assignment with PBS and working as a production assistant for TV documentaries. She also contributed to “Medical Diaries” on the Discovery Health Channel as a segment producer from 2000 to 2002.

Transitioning from production to acting, Paula Patton quickly gained recognition in Hollywood. Her feature film debut was in the romantic comedy “Hitch” in 2005. The following year, she secured a significant role as Claire Kuchever in the science fiction thriller “Déjà Vu” (2006), alongside Denzel Washington. This marked a turning point in her acting career, leading to roles in other notable films such as “Precious” (2009), where she portrayed Ms. Blu Rain, a teacher. She also appeared in “Jumping the Broom” (2011) and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” (2011), the latter being a major box office success.

Patton’s career continued with diverse roles across film and television. In 2013, she co-starred in the action comedy “2 Guns” with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. She also took on the lead role in the romantic comedy “Baggage Claim” that same year. Her work expanded to include projects like “The Perfect Match” (2016), where she also served as a producer, and the fantasy film “Warcraft” (2016), portraying Garona Halforcen. In television, she was cast in the main role of the ABC drama series “Somewhere Between” (2017) and later starred in and executive produced the BET+ original series “Sacrifice” (2019-2023), further showcasing her versatility as both an actress and producer. She is also slated to appear in “Finding Faith” (2025) and “Cipher” (2026).
