About

Paula Ann Zahn was born on February 24, 1956, in Omaha, Nebraska. Her early life involved frequent relocations due to her father’s work at IBM, leading her family to settle in Naperville, Illinois. She attended Washington Junior High School and graduated from Naperville Central High School in 1974. Zahn, an accomplished cellist, pursued higher education at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, on a cello scholarship, graduating in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While in college, she gained practical experience through an internship at WBBM-TV in Chicago. Her early career involved working at local television stations across the country, including WFAA-TV in Dallas, KFMB-TV in San Diego, KPRC-TV in Houston, WHDH-TV in Boston, and KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.

Zahn transitioned to national news in 1987, joining ABC News, where she initially anchored ‘The Health Show.’ She quickly advanced to co-anchoring ‘World News This Morning’ and providing news segments for ‘Good Morning America.’ In 1990, Zahn moved to CBS News, co-anchoring ‘CBS This Morning’ with Harry Smith. During her tenure at CBS, she covered significant events including the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics and the Waco siege. After her departure from the morning show in 1996, she anchored the Saturday edition of the ‘CBS Evening News’ and contributed to programs like ’48 Hours’ and ‘CBS News Sunday Morning.’

Her career continued to evolve with a move to cable news, joining Fox News Channel in 1999 to anchor ‘Fox Report’ and later launching ‘The Edge with Paula Zahn.’ In 2001, she joined CNN, initially providing coverage for the September 11 attacks, and subsequently launched her morning program ‘American Morning with Paula Zahn.’ She later moved to prime time, hosting ‘Live from the Headlines,’ and then ‘Paula Zahn Now.’ In 2009, she began producing and hosting ‘On the Case with Paula Zahn’ for Investigation Discovery, a role she maintains, alongside her work on PBS for ‘NYC-ARTS’ (formerly ‘SundayArts’) and hosting specials like the ‘New Year’s Celebration’ on ‘Great Performances’.
