Peter Billingsley

Peter Billingsley, born on April 16, 1971, in New York City, began his career in the entertainment industry at the age of three, appearing in television commercials during the 1970s. He gained early recognition for portraying Messy Marvin in a series of commercials for Hershey’s chocolate syrup. His most iconic role came in 1983 as Ralphie Parker in the holiday film ‘A Christmas Story.’ This role, where he famously wished for a Red Ryder BB-gun, cemented his place in pop culture and remains a significant part of his acting legacy. He continued to appear in various television shows and films throughout his youth, including a co-host role on NBC’s ‘Real People’ and a guest appearance on ‘Little House on the Prairie.’

As Billingsley matured, his career shifted towards behind-the-scenes work, though he maintained acting roles periodically. He adopted the name Peter Michaelsen for some of his production work, serving as an assistant editor on ‘Knights’ and post-production supervisor for ‘Arcade’ in 1993. A significant turning point in his career came with his Emmy Award nomination in 2005 as co-executive producer for the Independent Film Channel show ‘Dinner for Five’ alongside Jon Favreau. This collaboration extended to executive producing the hit film ‘The Break-Up’ in 2006 and the Marvel Comics feature film ‘Iron Man’ in 2008, where he also had a cameo as William Ginter Riva.

Building on his production experience, Billingsley ventured into directing, notably with the 2009 film ‘Couples Retreat’ and ‘Term Life’ in 2016. He has continued his producing work as a principal in Vince Vaughn’s ‘Wild West Picture Show Productions,’ which holds a production deal with Universal Studios. In 2022, he reprised his role as Ralphie Parker in the sequel ‘A Christmas Story Christmas,’ which he also co-wrote and produced, demonstrating his enduring connection to his early acting roots while embracing diverse filmmaking roles.
