Peter Orszag is a prominent American business executive and former government official, currently serving as CEO and Chairman of Lazard, following a distinguished career in economic policy and financial advisory. After serving as Senior Economist and Senior Adviser on the Council of Economic Advisers between 1995 and 1996 during the Clinton administration, Peter Orszag went on to hold the role of Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy from 1997 to 1998. His foundational expertise was built upon an A.B. summa cum laude in economics from Princeton University in 1991, followed by an M.Sc.
In May 2016, he moved to Lazard, taking on the role of Vice Chairman of Investment Banking and managing director. His progression within Lazard was swift; he was appointed Global Co-Head of Healthcare in July 2018, subsequently became Head of North American Mergers & Acquisitions, and was named CEO of Financial Advisory in April 2019. During this period, he championed the expansion of data analytics and AI capabilities within the firm and established Lazard Geopolitical Advisory in 2022. On October 1, 2023, Orszag assumed the prestigious role of CEO and Chairman of Lazard, where he has articulated ambitious plans to double the firm’s revenue by 2030 and significantly expand its roster of managing directors.
His leadership responsibilities at Lazard are set to encompass both CEO and Chairman duties, effective January 1, 2025, further solidifying his strategic vision and operational oversight for the global financial advisory and asset management firm.
