Playa Fly is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee, recognized for his contributions to hip-hop, Memphis rap, and gangsta rap, beginning his active career in 1993. After establishing himself in the Memphis rap scene in 1993, Playa Fly, then known as Lil Fly, released his debut underground album, ‘From Da Darkness Of Da Kut.’ His early work quickly garnered recognition for its contributions to hip-hop and gangsta rap. This initial success led to a pivotal three-album contract with Super Sigg Records, where he cultivated his sound and produced several acclaimed underground hits, cementing his influence. Playa Fly continued his prolific output with the release of ‘Fly Shit’ in 1996 through Super Sigg Records, featuring tracks like ‘Nappy Hair & Gold Teeth’ and ‘Da Show.’ This album marked the beginning of a significant collaboration with producer Blackout.
He marked his return with the single ‘Horses’ in 2006, released on the XXL website, followed by the single ‘Blast Off’ in 2010. Demonstrating his ongoing relevance and influence within hip-hop, Playa Fly was featured on Young Dolph’s ‘Welcome To My City 2’ album in 2012, further connecting with a new generation of fans and building on his significant legacy in the genre.
