About

Reginald Alfred Bush II was born on March 2, 1985, in Spring Valley, California. He distinguished himself early as a talented running back at Helix High School in La Mesa, California, where he received the Silver Pigskin trophy and excelled in track, posting impressive times in sprint events. Bush then attended the University of Southern California (USC), playing for the Trojans from 2003 to 2005 under head coach Pete Carroll. During his college career, he was recognized as a versatile five-way threat, making significant contributions in rushing, receiving, throwing, and returning the ball. He earned consensus first-team Freshman All-American honors in 2003 and led the Pacific-10 Conference in kickoff returns, setting a USC freshman record with 1,331 all-purpose yards. In 2004, he was a Heisman Trophy finalist, earned consensus All-American honors, and led the Pac-10 in all-purpose yardage with 2,330 yards. His junior year in 2005 was particularly notable, amassing 2,611 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns, leading the nation in all-purpose yards per game, and ultimately winning the Heisman Trophy.

Bush declared for the NFL Draft in 2006 and was selected second overall by the New Orleans Saints. His NFL career included stints with the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and San Francisco 49ers, culminating in his retirement in 2017. He secured a Super Bowl championship with the Saints in 2010 and was a First-team All-Pro punt returner in 2008. Post-retirement, Bush transitioned into media, working as a college football analyst for Fox Sports, and has pursued various business and philanthropic endeavors. His legacy was significantly impacted by NCAA investigations concerning improper benefits during his time at USC, which led to sanctions against the university and his voluntary forfeiture of the Heisman Trophy in 2010. However, in 2024, citing changes in NIL policies, the Heisman Trust reinstated his trophy.
