Ireland’s Robbie Henshaw plays rugby union. Despite having the ability to play fullback, he mostly plays as a centre. Henshaw presently competes for both Ireland and the United Rugby Championship’s Leinster, an Irish provincial team.
His uncle David Henshaw played rugby for the Buccaneers and Connacht, and Henshaw hails from a sporty family with a history of GAA involvement. Henshaw himself plays the accordion, violin, guitar, and piano, and the family is quite musically gifted. His teammates have dubbed him “One Man Band” and “Old Man Bob Henshaw” because of his musical and athletic flexibility.
The Irish team for the 2015 Rugby World Cup contained Henshaw. He played entire games against France and Argentina, the latter of which saw Ireland’s World Cup run come to an end. Henshaw scored the winning try against New Zealand on November 5, 2016, at Soldier Field in Chicago. He managed to avoid three defenders after receiving the ball from an offensive five-meter scrum and score. He travelled to New Zealand in 2017 with the British & Irish Lions. Henshaw, who had started the tour’s games against the Chiefs, Highlanders, and Blues, was sent home early due to an injury sustained against the Hurricanes. George North, another wounded back, rode with Henshaw on the trip home. Henshaw was included in the team on May 6, 2021, for the British & Irish Lions trip to South Africa. He was one of 9 players to start at 12 and 13 in each of the three tests.
