Robert Baer

Robert Baer is a former CIA case officer and author known for his field assignments in the Middle East and his commentary on international relations. After completing his education at Georgetown University and the University of California, Berkeley, Robert Baer joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1976, commencing a distinguished career as a case officer that spanned two decades until 1997. Primarily deployed in the Middle East, Baer undertook extensive field assignments in critical regions including Madras and New Delhi in India, Beirut, Damascus, Khartoum, Paris, Dushanbe, Morocco, the former Yugoslavia, and Iraqi Kurdistan. During the mid-1990s, he was involved in a high-stakes operation in Iraq aimed at organizing opposition to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Continuing his prolific literary career, Baer published The Fourth Man: The Hunt for a KGB Spy at the Top of the CIA and the Rise of Putin’s Russia in 2022, offering new insights into the clandestine world of international espionage.
