About

Robert Huth’s football journey started at a young age, playing for local youth club VfB Fortuna Biesdorf before moving to 1. FC Union Berlin. His promising talent led him to England in the 2000/01 season, where he signed with Chelsea FC’s youth team. Following impressive performances, he joined Chelsea’s first-team squad at 17 during the 2001/02 season, making his Premier League debut as a substitute against Aston Villa on the final day. He earned his first full start in the UEFA Cup against Viking Stavanger. Huth’s strong showings led to his debut for the German national team on August 18, 2004, in a match against Austria in Vienna. He quickly established himself, becoming a national team player during the 2004 Confederation Cup, where Germany secured third place. In 2005, Huth became an English champion with Chelsea FC. His defensive prowess, particularly his zonal marking, earned him the nickname “Berlin Wall” in England. He was selected for the German national team for the 2006 World Cup on home soil, where Germany achieved third place.

After his time at Chelsea, Huth moved to Middlesbrough in August 2006 for £6 million, spending three years with the club before their relegation in 2009. He then joined Stoke City for a club-record fee of £5 million. At Stoke, Huth became a vital player, earning the Player of the Year award in 2010–11 after a season that included playing in the FA Cup Final. He remained a key figure through several seasons, including under managers Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes, until a knee injury sidelined him for nearly a year.

In February 2015, Huth joined Leicester City on loan, playing a crucial role in helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League. This loan led to a permanent transfer in June 2015. The following season, in 2015–16, Huth was instrumental in Leicester City’s historic Premier League title win, making him only the seventh player to win the Premier League with two different teams. He retired from professional football in January 2019 after missing the entire 2017–18 season due to ankle and foot injuries. In October 2022, Huth returned to Leicester City as loans manager, demonstrating his continued involvement in football.
