Dominique Fishback

Dominique Fishback was born on March 22, 1991, in Brooklyn, New York City. She developed an interest in acting around the age of 10 and pursued formal training, graduating from Pace University with a B.A. in Theater in 2013. In 2014, Fishback showcased her versatility by premiering her Off-Off-Broadway play “Subverted,” where she performed 22 different characters. This early work earned her a nomination for a 2015 Innovative Theater Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.

Fishback gained recognition for her role as Billie Rowan in the 2015 HBO miniseries “Show Me a Hero.” Her career progressed significantly with her series regular role as Darlene in HBO’s “The Deuce” (2017–2019), where her portrayal of a vulnerable character received critical attention, with USA Today listing her as a breakout star for fall 2017 television. In 2017, she also appeared in Jay-Z’s “Smile” music video, playing a younger version of his mother, Gloria Carter. Her film debut, “Night Comes On,” premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. She went on to feature in the film adaptation of “The Hate U Give” (2018) as Kenya.

Her recent prominent work includes starring in the Netflix film “Project Power” (2020) alongside Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In 2021, Fishback delivered a critically acclaimed performance as Deborah Johnson in “Judas and the Black Messiah,” which earned her nominations for a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and a win for Best Supporting Actress at the African-American Film Critics Association Awards. In 2023, she took on roles in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” as Elena Wallace and the Amazon Prime Video series “Swarm” as the lead character Dre, also serving as a producer for “Swarm.” Her performance in “Swarm” garnered universal praise and a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.
