Roger Bart is a Tony Award-winning American actor and singer who has performed on Broadway for over 30 years. His performance in the revival of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in 1999 earned him a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award, and he received a second Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of Carmen Ghia in The Producers. He has also been nominated for three Outer Critics Circle Awards and a SAG Award. His performance of the track ‘Go the Distance’ from the animated movie Hercules (1997) was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Bart grew up in New Jersey and attended Mason Gross School of the Arts at the State University of New Jersey. Two years after graduating he made his Broadway debut as Tom Sawyer in Big River, and also appeared as Harlequin in Triumph of Love, Jonathan in King David and Bud Frump in the US tour of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Bart is also an accomplished television actor, with roles in The George Carlin show, Bram and Alice and his SAG Award-winning performance as George Williams in Desperate Housewives. In 2017 he was cast as Vice Principal Nero in the comedy drama A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Bart provided vocals for Hercules in the Disney animated film, and has appeared in numerous other movies including Spy School, American Gangster and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. In 2019 he returned to the stage in the role of Dr. Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future musical, proving once again that he is one of America’s best-loved musical theatre performers.
