Ruth Langsford was born on March 17, 1960, in Singapore. Her early life involved living in multiple countries, including Germany and North Africa, due to her father’s army career. Langsford began her television career at ITV’s regional station Television South West (TSW) in Plymouth, England, serving as a continuity announcer and newscaster. She transitioned from TSW when Westcountry Television assumed the franchise on January 1, 1993. Her career then progressed into national television, where she hosted programs for BBC1, BBC2, ITV, and various satellite channels.
From 1999 to 2022, Langsford made significant contributions to ITV’s flagship daytime program, “This Morning,” becoming its longest-serving presenter. Initially a guest presenter in 2000, she became a regular co-host in 2006, frequently alongside her husband, Eamonn Holmes, particularly for the Friday editions. Concurrently, Langsford was a consistent presence on “Loose Women” as a panellist from 1999 to 2002, and later returned as a regular anchor in 2014. Her career also includes hosting roles on “Gift Wrapped” (2014) and “How the Other Half Lives” (2015–2019).
Beyond her presenting roles, Langsford’s career expanded to include acting, with appearances in “Lemon La Vida Loca” (2012–2013), “Fisherman’s Friends” (2019), “Annually Retentive” (2006), and “The Keith Lemon Sketch Show” (2015). In 2017, she participated in the fifteenth series of “Strictly Come Dancing.” Langsford also developed a fashion line, “Ruth Langsford’s Fashion Edit,” in partnership with QVC, which she began co-presenting in February 2017. She has also served as a brand ambassador for Playtex and Clarivu refractive lens exchange, and contributed columns to “Woman” and “Tesco” magazines.
