Ryan Day

Born on March 23, 1980, in Pontycymer, Wales, Ryan Day embarked on his professional snooker career in 1999. In his early years, he showcased promise as a top amateur, reaching the final of the IBSF Championship in 1998. He won the 2001 Benson & Hedges Championship, which qualified him for the 2002 Masters. By 2004, Day made his debut at the World Snooker Championship, becoming the first player to record three century breaks in his first Crucible match. He entered the top 16 of the world rankings for the 2007/2008 season, reaching his highest ranking of world number six in the 2009/2010 season. Throughout his career, Day has maintained a reputation as a prolific break-builder, compiling over 450 century breaks, including four maximum breaks.

Day’s career saw him reach four ranking event finals between 2007 and 2017 before securing his first title at the 2017 Riga Masters. This breakthrough was followed by success at the 2018 Gibraltar Open and an invitational title at the 2018 Romanian Masters. In 2021, he achieved another significant milestone by winning the Shoot Out, becoming the first player in five years to defeat Mark Selby in a ranking event final. A year later, he claimed the British Open title in 2022, which he described as the biggest of his career. Day has also reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship on three occasions, notably in 2008 when he defeated defending champion John Higgins.

His consistent performances have kept him on the professional tour since 2002, solidifying his position as a respected figure in the sport. Day’s journey reflects a steady progression and a determination to succeed, marked by key victories and a long-standing presence at the highest levels of snooker competition.
