Creative Emmy winner Sarah Tanno is one of the world’s best-known makeup artists and is perhaps best known for her work as Lady Gaga’s personal MUA. She joined the pop icon’s creative team, The Haus of Gaga in 2009 and has been a key part of the set-up ever since, helping to style Gaga’s look for countless videos, tours, and television appearances. She won a Creative Emmy in 2016 for her work on the popular TV series, American Horror Story, and has won three Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards for her work on AHS, Lady Gaga’s ‘911’ video, and the smash-hit 2018 film, A Star is Born. She is the Global Artistry Director of Lady Gaga’s Haus Laboratories cosmetics company and the Creative Director of her signature makeup series for iDesign.

Tanno was born in Los Angeles but her big break came when she was working at a MAC counter in New York: she received a message out of the blue asking if she would like to help do Lady Gaga’s makeup for a couple of shows. This led to her joining the Haus of Gaga as MUA for her backing dancers. Within a couple of years, she was full-time makeup artist to the boss, and she has stayed there for over a decade. But Tanno also has a host of other dedicated big-name clients, including Gigi Hadid, Suki Waterhouse, and many others. Tanno’s much-acclaimed work has also seen her work with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Ellen Von Unwerth (to name just two) and build a huge personal audience across social media, including over 320,000 followers on Instagram.
