Juan Sebastián Muñoz Amaya, born on January 4, 1993, in Bogotá, Colombia, began his golf career at an early age, influenced by his golf-enthusiast father and grandfather. He pursued college golf at the University of North Texas, where he won two tournaments in his senior year, including the Conference USA Championship in 2015. Muñoz turned professional in 2015, competing on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica’s Developmental Series, where he secured two victories, the Abierto de Buracamanga and the Abierto de Club Campestre Medellin, before earning exempt status on the PGA Tour Latinoamérica.
In 2016, Muñoz achieved a significant milestone by winning the Club Colombia Championship on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) as a sponsor invitee in his hometown of Bogotá. This victory marked him as the first Colombian golfer to win on the Web.com Tour and led to him earning his PGA Tour card for the 2017 season. His career progression saw him returning to the Web.com Tour in 2018, where consistent performance, including two second-place finishes and a third-place finish, helped him regain his PGA Tour card. In 2019, Muñoz secured his first PGA Tour victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi, by defeating Sungjae Im in a playoff.
Muñoz represented Colombia at the delayed 2020 Olympic Games, finishing tied for fourth place. He made history by becoming the first PGA Tour player to shoot a 60 or better twice in the same season, achieving this feat at the 2021 RSM Classic and the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson. In 2022, he was selected for the International team in the Presidents Cup, where he remained unbeaten. In February 2023, Muñoz joined LIV Golf, leading to his suspension from the PGA Tour. He continued to achieve notable results, including a silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games and a victory at LIV Golf Indianapolis in 2025, defeating Jon Rahm in a playoff.
