Shaun Johnson

Born in Auckland, New Zealand on September 9, 1990, Shaun Johnson distinguished himself early in a variety of sports including basketball, rugby union, and Australian rules football. His rugby league journey began with the Hibiscus Coast Raiders before joining the New Zealand Warriors in 2009. Johnson quickly rose through the ranks, playing for the Junior Warriors in the Toyota Cup, where Andrew Johns, a league great, remarked on his exceptional talent. He made his NRL debut with the New Zealand Warriors in 2011, reaching the NRL Grand Final in his rookie season. Johnson accumulated numerous accolades during his playing career, including the RLIF Rookie of the Year in 2012, and the prestigious Golden Boot Award in 2014, recognizing him as the world’s best player. He is the highest point scorer for both the Warriors and the New Zealand Kiwis at international level, demonstrating his consistent high-level performance.

Johnson’s career progression included significant stints with the New Zealand Warriors (2011-2018, 2022-2024) and the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks (2019-2021). A defining moment came in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup semi-final, where his last-minute try and conversion secured New Zealand’s place in the final.
