Skylar Park was born on June 6, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She began practicing Taekwondo at the age of two within her family’s dojang, a legacy that includes 16 black belts across her family members, including her father, who also serves as her coach. Her early exposure to the sport laid the foundation for a distinguished career.
Park achieved a significant milestone in 2016, securing a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Burnaby, British Columbia, in the 59kg weight class. This performance marked her emergence as a prominent athlete. She transitioned to senior competition in 2017, where she demonstrated her capabilities by earning a bronze medal at the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships in the 57kg category and a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Lima the same year. Her Olympic debut occurred at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where she reached the quarterfinals in the 57kg event. In 2022, she continued her success with a third consecutive gold medal at the Pan American Championships and three World Taekwondo Grand Prix bronze medals.
The year 2023 was particularly notable for Park, as she secured four international victories, including her first-ever Grand Prix gold medal and a gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, she earned a bronze medal in the Women’s 57 kg Taekwondo event, further solidifying her position as an elite athlete. Beyond her competitive achievements, Park is also pursuing studies in kinesiology online through the University of Manitoba and has served as a mentor for Voice in Sport (VIS).
