Stefan Brogren is an Emmy-nominated Canadian actor, producer and director best known for his role as Archie Simpson in television franchise Degrassi, and for directing CTV’s The L.A. Complex.
Ontario-born Brogren shot to fame after winning his debut role as Archie ‘Snake’ Simpson in Degrassi High as a teenager, in the late ‘80s. The show ran for several years and over sixty episodes. Fans of the hit Canadian teen drama series had a rare chance to see the character develop and grow over the subsequent, with Brogren returning to the character on several occasions, including in Degrassi: Minis, the television movie’s Degrassi Takes Manhattan and School’s Out!, Degrassi: The Next Generation and, most recently, in Degrassi: Next Class.
Entering the role as a student, the character of Simpson later became the school’s media immersion teacher and later the Principal. Brogan also reunited with his Degrassi co-stars in the music video for Drake’s 2018 song I’m Upset. Best known for this recurring role, his performances have earned Brogren and his castmates four Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Children’s Programme.
A recognisable face in Canadian and American television, Brogren has also appeared in Liberty Street, Wind at My Back, La Femme Nikita, Twitch City, Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, Witchblade, The Associates and Wild Card. Movie credits include Hairshirt, Focus, Invitation, Drummer Boy, The Happy Couple, Denied, and Very, Very Valentine.
A multi-talented creator, Brogren has earned several directing and producing credits for his work on Degrassi: Next Class, Holly Hobbie, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Open Heart and The L.A. Complex.
