Stefan Hula Jr. was born on September 29, 1986, in Szczyrk, Poland. His athletic lineage is notable, as his father, Stefan Hula Sr., was a former Nordic combined skier and a bronze medalist at the 1974 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Hula Jr. pursued ski jumping, competing for KS Eve-nement Zakopane. He is married to Marcelina, and together they operate “Huligans,” a company where Marcelina designs and sews suits for ski jumpers. The couple has two daughters.
Hula’s career demonstrates consistent participation across various international competitions. He has represented Poland in four Olympic Winter Games: 2006, 2010, 2018, and 2022. Early in his career, he achieved a 37th place finish in the individual event at the 2006 Ski Flying World Championships. His individual World Cup performances include a 6th place in a large hill event in Kuopio, Finland, in 2016, which he later surpassed with a 5th place finish in Oberstdorf in the 2017/18 season. A significant turning point occurred on January 21, 2018, when he, alongside teammates Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, and Piotr Żyła, secured Poland’s first-ever bronze medal in ski flying in a team competition. This marked his first medal in senior competition, leading to his selection for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
In the 2018 Winter Olympics, Hula demonstrated strong individual performance in the normal hill event, leading after the first jump and ultimately finishing in 5th place. On February 19, 2018, he earned an Olympic bronze medal with his teammates Maciej Kot, Dawid Kubacki, and Kamil Stoch in the men’s large hill team event, placing behind Norway and Germany. This achievement marked a historic milestone for Poland in Olympic ski jumping. In the World Cup circuit, Hula achieved his first podium in a team competition at Zakopane on January 27, 2018, followed by his best individual World Cup result of 4th place at the same venue the next day. He has maintained an active presence in the Continental Cup, with recent results including a 13th place in Rena, Norway, in 2023, and consistent top-30 finishes across various hills.
