Stephen Adam Amell was born on May 8, 1981, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He decided to pursue acting in his teens. Amell appeared in two episodes of the fourth season of “Queer as Folk” in 2004 as a spinning instructor. He also played Adam in the first season of the television series “Dante’s Cove.” In 2007, Amell received a Gemini Award for a guest-starring role on “ReGenesis” and was nominated for another Gemini Award in the Best Ensemble Cast Category for “Rent-a-Goalie.” He had recurring roles in “Da Kink in My Hair” and “Heartland.” On December 3, 2010, Amell joined the cast of “The Vampire Diaries” as the werewolf ‘Brady’ for season 2. He starred as Joran Van Der Sloot in the Lifetime film “Justice for Natalee Holloway” in May 2011.
In October 2011, Amell appeared in season 3 of HBO’s “Hung” as Jason, a busboy-turned-prostitute. He also had a role as Jim in “90210” and as Scottie, a paramedic, on ABC’s “Private Practice.” In January 2012, Amell was cast as the title character Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in The CW series “Arrow,” a role he held from 2012 to 2020. This role led to appearances in other Arrowverse series, such as “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Supergirl,” and “Batwoman,” as well as the web series “Vixen.” In 2016, Amell co-starred as Casey Jones in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.”
Beyond acting, Amell has been involved in professional wrestling, appearing on WWE’s “Raw” in 2015 and participating in a tag team match at SummerSlam where he and Neville defeated Stardust and King Barrett. He received a Slammy Award for “Celebrity Moment of the Year” for this appearance. He also returned to professional wrestling in 2017 with Ring of Honor and competed in a singles match at All In in 2018. Amell has actively engaged in philanthropy, spearheading successful fundraising campaigns through Represent.com. In 2019, he co-produced and starred in “Code 8” and its sequel “Code 8: Part II” in 2024 with his cousin Robbie Amell. Post-“Arrow,” he took on a lead role in the Starz drama series “Heels” (2021-2023) and was cast as Ted Black in NBC’s upcoming “Suits LA” (2025).
