Steve Basham is a former professional football player who was born in Southampton, England in1977. He was a striker and began his professional football career at his hometown club Southampton who at that time were on the top-flight Premier League.
During his time at Southampton, he would enjoy a loan spell at Preston North End, to whom he would be sold to for£200,000. Whilst at Preston, he would see that promotion to Division one. Following some injury problems, he would be released by the club and signed by Oxford United, where he would make 187 appearances for the club and score 49 goals.
Over the years he would play for Exeter, Luton, Hayes & Yeading before signing for his former club’s derby rivals Oxford City.Since his retirement from his professional playing career, he has supported charities in his local area including that of Special Effect, who help people who have disabilities reap the rewards that playing video games can bring. He took part in the London Marathon and successfully exceeded his £1,500 fundraising target for the cause. Honours that Basham had accumulated during his career include a Division Two winners medal, a Conference play-off winners medal, a League two runner up (butpromoted) and the play off winner of the Evostick Southern Premier League.
