Steve Buscemi

Steven Vincent Buscemi was born on December 13, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York. His early life included working as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department’s Engine Company No. 55 from 1980 to 1984, an experience he later revisited in the 2014 HBO documentary ‘A Good Job: Stories of the FDNY.’ He developed an interest in acting during his final year of high school and subsequently moved to Manhattan to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Before his film debut, he honed his craft by writing and performing original theater pieces with Mark Boone Junior in downtown New York City.

Buscemi transitioned into film with his first lead role in ‘Parting Glances’ (1986). His career gained momentum with key collaborations, including his first project with the Coen brothers, ‘Miller’s Crossing’ (1990), and his breakthrough role as Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’ (1992). He continued to build a diverse filmography throughout the 1990s, with notable roles in ‘Fargo’ (1996), ‘Con Air’ (1997), ‘Armageddon’ (1998), and ‘The Big Lebowski’ (1998). In the 2000s, he received critical acclaim and major award nominations for his performance in ‘Ghost World’ (2001) and gained wider recognition for his voice work in animated films like ‘Monsters, Inc.’ (2001).

His television career significantly expanded with his role as Tony Blundetto in ‘The Sopranos’ (2004–2006), for which he also directed several episodes and earned an Emmy nomination. A pivotal moment in his career was his leading role as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in the HBO series ‘Boardwalk Empire’ (2010–2014), which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama.
