Burak Özçivit was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on December 24, 1984. He pursued higher education at Marmara University, where he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts with a degree in photography. His career began in the fashion industry when he was named Top Model of Turkey in 2003. This initial success in modeling led to global recognition, as he was awarded the second-best model in the world title in 2005. Following his modeling career, Özçivit transitioned into acting, participating in various Turkish television series and films.
His acting debut was in the television series “Eksi 18” in 2006. A notable early role was Ömer in “Zoraki Koca,” which marked a turning point in his career. He continued to build his acting portfolio with roles in “Baba Ocağı” and “İhanet,” and also appeared in the horror film “Musallat.” Özçivit gained wider recognition for his portrayal of Çet/Çetin in “Küçük Sırlar,” a Turkish adaptation. A significant historical role came with Malkoçoğlu Bali Bey in “Muhteşem Yüzyıl” from 2011 to 2013, which further established his presence in the industry.
Özçivit’s career continued to flourish with lead roles such as Kamran in the TV adaptation of “Çalıkuşu” (2013-2014) and Kemal Soydere in the globally successful drama series “Kara Sevda” (2015-2017). He also expanded his work into film production, starting his own company, BRK’s Production, and produced films like “Aşk Sana Benzer” and “Kardeşim Benim.” His most prominent role has been Osman Gazi in the historical fiction series “Kuruluş: Osman,” which began in 2019 and has spanned six seasons, achieving significant international viewership, particularly in South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. He has received numerous awards, including Actor of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in 2012 and Best Male Actor of the Year at the Radio Television Journalists Association (RTGD Oscars) in 2020.
