Steve Lutz

Steve Lutz launched his distinguished collegiate coaching career in 1995 as an Assistant Coach at Incarnate Word, where he contributed to a formidable 99-20 team record over his four-year tenure until 1999. Prior to this, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas Lutheran University in 1995 and furthered his academic pursuits with a Master of Education from Incarnate Word in 1997. Lutz continued to hone his expertise, serving as Assistant Coach at Garden City Community College (1999-2000), before taking on the role of Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Stephen F. Austin (2000-2006) and subsequently at SMU (2006-2010).

For these achievements, Lutz was recognized as the Southland Coach of the Year (2023) and NABC District 22 Coach of the Year (2023), also being named a Finalist for the prestigious Joe B. Hall Award in 2022. His consistent excellence was further acknowledged with nominations as a Finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award in both 2023 and 2024. In April 2024, Steve Lutz was appointed Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Oklahoma State University, where in his inaugural 2024-2025 season, he successfully led the Cowboys to the Quarterfinals of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament, solidifying his reputation for revitalizing programs and achieving postseason success.
