Sunisa Lee is one of the most talented and accomplished American gymnasts of the current era. Born on March 9, 2003, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Sunisa is a proud Hmong-American, and her journey to the pinnacle of gymnastics has been nothing short of remarkable. She began her training at a young age, joining the Midwest Gymnastics Center in Little Canada, Minnesota, where she quickly demonstrated her natural talent and dedication to the sport.
Sunisa’s journey to becoming a household name started in 2018 when she participated in the U.S. Classic, where she won first place on the uneven bars and took third place in the all-around competition. Since then, she has gone on to win several prestigious awards and titles. In 2019, Sunisa came in eighth place at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, where she received the award for “Most Improved Senior Gymnast”. She continued to make a name for herself in the sport and was selected to represent the United States at the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Germany. There, she helped the U.S. team secure the gold medal while also winning the silver medal in the floor exercise.
Sunisa made history at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when she achieved the gold medal in the all-around competition, becoming the first-ever Hmong-American to win an Olympic gold. She also won a silver medal in the team competition and a bronze medal in the uneven bars, further solidifying her status as one of the premier gymnasts around the world.
