Yul Moldauer

Yul Moldauer, born Kyung-Tae in Seoul, South Korea on August 26, 1996, was adopted into the Moldauer family in Colorado. Despite being born prematurely with medical issues, Moldauer began gymnastics at age seven to channel energy. By age ten, he joined 5280 Gymnastics, where he trained under the Artemev family (Vladimir, Irina, and Alexander Artemev). His junior career saw him win state and regional titles, eventually earning a spot on the Junior National Team. In 2014, he secured the junior title on the pommel horse at the U.S. National Championships, and in 2015, he won gold in the 18-year-old division of the Junior Olympic National Championships. His collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a communications degree in May 2020, was highly successful, including an NCAA all-around title in 2016.

Moldauer’s senior gymnastics career commenced with significant achievements, including a gold medal in the all-around, rings, and parallel bars at the 2017 Winter Cup. He later won his first top-level international competition at the 2017 American Cup, placing first. In August 2017, Moldauer claimed the all-around national title at the U.S. National Championships and earned a bronze medal in the floor exercise at the 2017 World Championships while placing 7th in the all-around. In 2018, he won his second consecutive American Cup all-around title and was named the 2018 Male Athlete of the Year by USA Gymnastics. He continued his success by winning the 2019 Winter Cup all-around and his third consecutive American Cup all-around title, and was awarded the Nissen Emery Award, recognizing him as the top male collegiate gymnast.

His career progression included participating in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he contributed to the U.S. men’s team’s fifth-place finish and placed sixth in the men’s floor exercise. Further significant achievements include winning four gold medals at the 2022 Pan American Championships, including the team title, and securing a team bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships. In 2023, he also became the first American male gymnast to win the all-around title at the Pan American Gymnastics Championships. In 2024, Moldauer continued to achieve high placements, including gold medals at the Winter Cup and Pacific Rim Championships, and a national title on parallel bars at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, leading to his selection as a non-traveling alternate for the 2024 Summer Olympics. In January 2025, Moldauer accepted a 16-month ban from the United States Anti-Doping Agency for whereabouts failures, with intentions to train for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
