About

Suresh Raina was born on November 27, 1986, in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh. His family relocated from Rainawari, Jammu and Kashmir, settling in Muradnagar. Raina developed his cricketing skills early, leading the Uttar Pradesh U-16 team and gaining recognition from Indian selectors at the age of 15. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh in February 2003. His progression included participation in the U-19 tour to England in 2002, the U-19 Asian ODI Championship in Pakistan in 2003, and the 2004 U-19 World Cup, where he scored three half-centuries. He further honed his skills at the Australian Cricket Academy on a Border–Gavaskar scholarship in 2005, making his first-class limited overs debut that year.

Raina’s international career began on July 30, 2005, with his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka. He became the first Indian batsman to score a century in all three formats of international cricket and the first Indian to achieve a T20 World Cup century. A key member of the Indian team, he contributed to victories in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Domestically, Raina was a prominent figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL), notably with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2008 to 2015 and again from 2018 to 2021, and captained the Gujarat Lions in 2016–2017. He holds several IPL records, including being the first player to score 5,000 runs and the most catches in the league’s history. He announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, and from all forms of cricket on September 6, 2022.

Post-retirement, Raina has ventured into entrepreneurship and media. He founded Maaté, a babycare brand, with his wife Priyanka, and also established the Gracia Raina Foundation, focusing on adolescent and maternal health. In 2023, he launched Raina Indian Restaurant in Amsterdam, bringing authentic Indian cuisine to the Netherlands. He has also taken on roles as a cricket commentator and played in various franchise leagues like the Road Safety World Series and Legends League Cricket, captaining Urbanrisers Hyderabad to the finals in 2023. These endeavors mark his transition into business and continued engagement with the sport.
