The amazing sportsman Tadej Pogačar is a professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates. He won the 2020 an 2021 editions of the Tour de France, and three individual stages at the 2019 Vuelta a España. He is also an Olympic medalist, having taken Bronze in the Men’s road race at Tokyo 2020. He is the current men’s UCI road racing world No.1 with a record 79 weeks at the top along with a record 69 consecutive weeks. He also finished the season as the year-end No.1 in 2021 and 2022.
Born and raised in Slovenia, Pogačar grew up with a love for sport, and in 2007 became a member of the Rog-Ljubljana cycling club. He quickly proved himself on the slopes, and in 2009, at just 11-years-old, he claimed his first cycling victory in the ascent to Krvavec. His abilities on two-wheels was nurtured by the club, and he later became one of their U-23 riders, before joining UAE Team Emirates in 2019.
As a professional rider, Pogačar became the youngest cyclist to win a UCI World Tour race with victory in the Tour of California in 2019 when he was 20-years-old. Then, in both his 2020 Tour de France debut and in the event in 2021, he won three stages as well as the race overall, including the mountains and young-rider classifications, to become the only rider to win all three classifications simultaneously. He also became the first road cyclist in history to break the 6,000 point barrier in UCI World Ranking, as well as becoming the first Tour de France winner to take an Olympic medal in the road race in the same year after taking Bronze at the men’s road race in Tokyo 2020.
