Terell Smith

Terell Smith was born on July 27, 1999, in The Bronx, New York, and later moved to Snellville, Georgia, where he attended South Gwinnett High School. He committed to play college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the University of Minnesota. Smith rapidly established himself, becoming a starter at cornerback early in his freshman season, concluding with 43 tackles, one interception, and eight passes broken up. His early success showcased his potential on the collegiate level.

After a period of limited playing time as a backup during his sophomore and junior years, Smith redshirted his junior season. He re-emerged as a starter in his senior year at Minnesota, demonstrating sustained development. During this season, he recorded 38 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two interceptions, along with five passes broken up. This performance helped him gain the attention of professional scouts.

Smith’s professional career began when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 5th Round (165th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. In his rookie year (2023 season), he appeared in 12 games, starting four, and contributed 49 tackles, six passes defensed, and one forced fumble. In the 2024 season, he played in 14 games with two starts, recording 19 tackles and his first career interception. Unfortunately, in the 2025 preseason, Smith sustained a torn patellar tendon, leading to his placement on season-ending injured reserve.
