Terry McGovern, an accomplished actor, voice artist, and instructor, launched his multi-faceted career with a pivotal early collaboration with George Lucas, appearing in his inaugural film, THX 1138 in 1971. His work on THX 1138 is notably credited with the creation of the term ‘Wookiee.’ McGovern continued his association with Lucas on significant projects, including the 1973 film American Graffiti, where he played Mr. Bill Wolfe, and the iconic 1977 film Star Wars, for which he provided voice-overs. Prior to film, McGovern honed his broadcast skills at KDKA radio and KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh (1965-1969) before joining KSFO radio in San Francisco in 1969.
Director Lou in the acclaimed 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire and in a deleted scene of Back to the Future. On television, he played Jim Coyle in the CBS series Charlie & Co. and made appearances in Happy Days and Three’s Company.
Demonstrating his commitment to the craft, McGovern founded The Marin Actors’ Workshop, where he serves as artistic director, and has instructed commercial and character voice at institutions including the College of Marin and the University of San Francisco, where he taught script writing and broadcast announcing history. McGovern’s significant contributions to radio broadcasting were formally recognized with his induction into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame, Class of 2008. Since 2012, he has hosted the weekend morning show on Boss Boss Radio, an internet station specializing in Top 40 hits from 1964 to 1980. His recent acting credits include roles in Moebius: Empire Rising (2014), Axis Football ’17 (2017), and Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 4: Bush Rescue Returns (2023), underscoring his ongoing engagement in the entertainment industry.
