Tessa Virtue is widely considered to be one of the greatest ice dancers of all time and is one of the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history. Along with her partner Scott Moir, they are the first figure skaters to hold five career Olympic medals and have won gold in both team and ice dance events. The youngest ice dance team ever to win an Olympic title, their career saw them skate together for over two decades, and in 2010 they became the first North American ice dancers to win an Olympic gold medal in the previously European-dominated sport.
In 2010 Virtue co-wrote a book along with Moir and Steve Milton named Tessa and Scott: Our Journey from Childhood Dream to Gold. The duo also starred in their own TV show Tessa and Scott which focussed on their Olympic training. Virtue has been sponsored by many Canadian and international companies throughout her skating career, including Adidas, MAC Cosmetics and Colgate, and she is the first Canadian brand ambassador for Nivea. She also designed her own jewellery collection for Hillberg & Berk in 2015.
Born in London, Ontario, Virtue was a talented ballerina who turned down a place at the National Ballet School to concentrate on skating. She was paired with Scott Moir in 1997 and the duo was initially coached by Moir’s aunt. It didn’t the talented couple long to start winning national and international championships, and after winning gold at the 2010 Olympics Virtue and Moir became household names. The legendary pair secured a second gold at Pyeongchang 2018 skating to El Tango De Roxanne from Moulin Rouge, in a breath-taking performance which quickly went viral. The couple hung up their skates in 2019, but Virtue remains a national treasure in Canada and a legend of ice dancing.
