Rona Ambrose is a dynamic leader whose passion lies with advocating for women’s rights, gay rights, marriage equality and so much more. Ambrose is the former leader of Canada’s Official Opposition in the House of Commons and the former leader of the Conservative Party of Canada—at the time of her appointment, she was the youngest female cabinet minister in Canadian history. Named the most civil parliamentarian, Rona Ambrose has shaken the Conservative Party and brought it to its highest membership in its history thanks to her efforts and initiatives during her tenure. She is personally responsible for the development of several federal policies, from industrial strategies in military spending to health advancements to sexual assault laws. In addition to championing the rights of women and girls, she’s proudly the first leader of the Party to march in a gay pride parade; she’s gained the respect of parliamentarians of all political sides.
Among her many contributions to fight for women’s wellbeing, she successfully created a Canadian refugee program to bring Yazidi women and girls who have been sexually enslaved by ISIS to Canada. Her accomplishments have included leading the global movement to create the International Day of the Girl at the United Nations, ensuring that aboriginal women in Canada were finally granted equal matrimonial rights and launching #SheLeads, a non-profit foundation that encourages women to run for office and participate in public life. She also founded the She Leads Economic Council of Alberta, a successful group of woman corporate leaders who provide non-partisan economic advice to high-ranking government and political officials. Some of her other governmental roles have included serving as chair of the cabinet committee for public safety, justice and aboriginal issues and serving on the Government of Canada’s Advisory Council on the North American Free Trade Agreement.
