About

Shane Thor Galligan, known by her stage name Thorgy Thor, was born on May 25, 1984, in Ronkonkoma, New York. She pursued formal music education, studying at the University of Hartford Hartt School in Connecticut and later graduating from the State University of New York, Purchase, in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music in both viola and violin performance. Alongside her classical training, Galligan developed an early interest in performance, starring in theater productions such as “Bad Splices” and “Psycho Beach Party.” Her mother, Elaine Frantzen Galligan, supported her artistic endeavors before her passing in 2005. Thorgy Thor moved to Brooklyn in 2006, where she evolved her drag persona, becoming a prominent figure in the local nightlife scene. Her initial drag performance was as Frank N. Furter from “The Rocky Horror Show,” and her distinctive style, influenced by Brooklyn’s drag culture, quickly gained recognition. She won the LEGEND award at the 2014 Brooklyn Nightlife Awards, marking an early career milestone in her drag journey.

Thorgy Thor’s career significantly expanded when she appeared on the eighth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2016, placing sixth. Her infectious personality and musical talents resonated with a global audience. She later returned for the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars” in 2018. Beyond her appearances on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Thorgy Thor has integrated her love for classical music into her drag performances, performing as an instrumentalist at prestigious venues such as Le Poisson Rouge, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. A pivotal moment in her career was the creation of “Thorgy and the Thorchestra” in 2018, a symphony show blending orchestral performances with drag, music, and comedy, in collaboration with conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser. This show debuted with Symphony Nova Scotia and has since been performed with numerous major orchestras across North America, including the Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Charlotte, Seattle, Oregon, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Calgary symphonies.

Her versatility extends to television, appearing in Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle,” showcasing her violin skills in drag, and as a repeat guest on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” alongside notable figures like Goldie Hawn and Jane Fonda. She has also been featured in “Dragnificent!” on TLC and Hulu, and has toured extensively as a comedic performer in “Haters Roast” and other comedy tours. In 2018, she also took on a role in the musical “Oh My God Broadway.” Thorgy Thor’s career reflects a sustained effort to merge classical music with drag artistry, making her a unique and celebrated figure in contemporary entertainment.
