Timothy David Flowers was born on February 3, 1967, in Kenilworth, England. His professional football career began in 1984 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he quickly established himself as their regular goalkeeper by the age of 18. Despite the club’s challenging period, experiencing successive relegations during his two seasons, Flowers demonstrated his talent. He then moved to First Division club Southampton in June 1986 for £70,000. After initial seasons as an understudy and loan spells at Swindon Town, he became Southampton’s primary goalkeeper in the 1989–90 season, gaining recognition as one of the top goalkeepers in the English league.
Flowers’ career reached a significant milestone in November 1993 when he transferred to Blackburn Rovers for £2.4 million, becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in Britain at the time. His crucial role in goal contributed to Blackburn finishing second in the Premier League in 1993–94 and ultimately winning their first top-division title since 1914 in the 1994–95 season. He stayed with Blackburn Rovers for four more seasons, departing before their relegation in 1999. Following this, he joined Leicester City where he won a Football League Cup winner’s medal in his inaugural season in 1999–2000. He also had loan spells with Stockport County, Coventry City, and Manchester City before retiring as a player in 2003 after his final appearance for Leicester City.
After retiring from playing, Flowers transitioned into coaching and management. He served as a goalkeeper coach for Leicester City and Manchester City, and later as an assistant manager at Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers. His managerial career includes stints at Stafford Rangers (2010–2011), Solihull Moors (2018–2020), Macclesfield Town (2020), Barnet (2020–2021), Stratford Town (2021), Gloucester City (2023), Bromsgrove Sporting (2024), Redditch United (2024), and is currently managing Alvechurch. Flowers also earned 11 caps for the England national team between 1993 and 1998, participating in Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup squads.
