As an award winning actor, Tom Hopper’s landed roles on some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on television, including HBO’s Game of Thrones, Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, and BBC’s Doctor Who.
Hopper first became interested in acting when he performed in his school musical, leading him to pursue acting at Rose Bruford College. There, he was named “Expert Choice” by The Stage at the Rose Bruford Acting Showcase and graduated with honors, so it comes as no surprise that Hopper got his first professional job upon graduation, debuting at the Watford Palace Theatre in their production of As You Like It.
After that, Hopper transitioned from the stage to screen, with guest spots on shows like Casualty, Doctors, Kingdom, as well as Doctor Who. Meanwhile, he nabbed his first few film roles before getting his first major part, starting as Sir Percival in BBC’s Merlin. Upon completion of the show, he landed his first starring film role the same year he was cast in his next leading television role: he starred as Asbjörn in Northmen: A Viking Saga while also starring in the Starz series, Black Sails, playing Billy Bones.
From there, Hopper became a household name. Now, he’s held major roles in films with star-studded casts, such as I Feel Pretty alongside Amy Schumer and Michelle Williams, Terminator: Dark Fate with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Morgan Freeman, to name a few. This success has extended to television, as well: not only did he take over for Freddie Stroma as Dickon Tarly in one of the most popular shows of all time, Game of Thrones, but he’s in the main cast of The Umbrella Academy, playing Luther Hargreeves alongside Elliot Page.
