Tom Izzo

Tom Izzo, the celebrated head coach of the Michigan State Spartans, was appointed to lead the men’s basketball program in 1995, swiftly establishing a winning culture that earned him the AP College Coach of the Year and Henry Iba Award in 1998. His coaching career began as an assistant at Northern Michigan University (1979-1983) before joining Michigan State in 1983, advancing to associate head coach by 1990. Under his leadership, the Spartans secured their first Big Ten regular season championship in 1998 and their inaugural Big Ten Tournament title in 1999, making their first Final Four appearance that same year.
