Tom Liberatore

Born on May 16, 1992, in Melbourne, Victoria, Tom Liberatore was drafted to the Western Bulldogs via father-son selection in the 2010 AFL Draft. He quickly became a key figure in the team’s midfield due to his high-pressure playing style. In 2014, Liberatore earned significant recognition by winning the Charles Sutton Medal, and was also included in the initial 40-man squad for the All-Australian team after leading the league in tackles and clearances. His early career highlighted his potential and established his reputation as a formidable contested ball-winner.

After a knee injury sidelined him during the 2015 season, Liberatore made a strong return in 2016, playing a crucial role in the Western Bulldogs’ historic AFL Premiership win. He tied the AFL record for most tackles in a single game with 19 tackles that year. Despite subsequent injury challenges in 2018, he has consistently returned to form. In 2023, Liberatore reached his 200-game milestone, becoming the 12th father-son draftee to achieve this for the same club as his father. As of 2024, he also serves as the Western Bulldogs’ vice-captain, demonstrating his leadership and continued value to the team. Beyond his professional career, Liberatore has delved into personal endeavors. He is a co-owner of two pubs in Melbourne, the Ascot Vale Hotel and the Mona Castle Hotel. He has also shown an interest in social causes, volunteering for Ladder, a charity empowering young people in Australia, and developing an app called “Busket” to support buskers and help address homelessness.
