About

Born on September 20, 1969, in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, Tony Law developed a comedic style characterized by surreal material and improvisational delivery. He has been based in London, United Kingdom, since the age of 19, having moved there inspired by Monty Python and The Who. Law’s stand-up performances often involve ad-libbed routines centered on various subjects, incorporating fictional and surreal situations. His unique approach has made him a notable figure in the alternative comedy scene.

Law’s career officially began with winning the New Act competition at Glastonbury Festival in 1995. Early in his career, his material frequently featured stories of time-traveling exploits with his sausage dog, Cartridge Davison, who also inspired his Edinburgh show “The Dog Of Time.” He expanded his presence into television, appearing on shows such as Channel 4’s “Does Doug Know?” (2002) and ITV’s “Comedy Cuts.” A significant turning point was his first comedy tour in 2009, followed by supporting Stewart Lee in 2010. Over the years, Law has consistently performed and developed his craft, leading to nominations and appearances on prominent television programs.

His work includes a series of solo shows, such as “Go Mr Tony Go!” (2011) and “Maximum Nonsense” (2012), the latter of which earned him a nomination for best comedy show at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Law has also been featured on BBC One’s “Have I Got News for You” (2012) and “8 Out of 10 Cats” (2012, 2013), and Comedy Central UK’s “The Alternative Comedy Experience” (2013). Beyond stand-up, he has written and produced several TV specials like “Tony Law: A Now Begin in Again” (2022) and contributed to podcasts. In 2017, he collaborated with Adam Larter on “Battle for Icetopia,” an experimental comedy opera on ice, which received the Chortle Award for Event of the Year.
