Petrolhead Tony “Smoke” Stewart is a semi-retired professional stock car racer, and co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. He is the only driver in history to win a championship in both IndyCar and NASCAR, being a 3x NASCAR Cup Series Champion, an IndyCar Series Champion, and a 4x USAC Champion. In 2019 he was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. In 2003 he founded The Tony Stewart Foundation, to raise and donate funds to charitable interests.
Born and raised in Indiana, Stewart started racing go-karts when he was eight-years-old, and a year later he won his first championship. By the time he was 16 he had won a World Karting Association championship, and then he moved up through the various karting classes going on to be named USAC Rookie of the Year in 1991, USAC National Midget Series Champion in 1994 and 1995, and USAC Silver Crown Series champion in 1988. By 1995, he was racing IndyCar and NASCAR Xfinity Series, and became the first driver to win USAC’s Triple Crown by claiming championships in all three USAC’s major divisions: National Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown. He started his NASCAR career in 1999, claiming his first win that same year and going on to life three championships in 2002, 2005, and 2011. He has also raced at Daytona, USAC, and ARCA.
Stewart is also a Motorsports team owner, staring out in 1999 with Tri Star Motorsports, Stewart-Haas Racing, and Tony Stewart Racing, as well as the owner of a number of motorsports venues, and of the racing series All Star Circuit of Champions, and Superstar Racing Experience.
