Ty Young

Ty Young is a former WNBA athlete and a coach, now sharing her experiences and insights with broad audiences. After setting the Colonial Athletic Association’s all-time scoring record during her collegiate career at James Madison University, Ty Young was drafted 8th overall in the first round of the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, becoming the first player from JMU to play in the WNBA. Her impactful collegiate tenure culminated in leading JMU to the third round of the 2008 WNIT. Her achievements were further recognized with the retirement of her number 11 jersey at Emsley A.

Laney High School, an honor she shares with Michael Jordan, and later, an induction into the James Madison University Hall of Fame. Young transitioned seamlessly into her professional career, playing 372 games across the WNBA with stints for the Atlanta Dream, Chicago Sky, and Las Vegas Aces. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the Chicago Sky’s journey to the WNBA Finals in 2014. Parallel to her WNBA commitments, Young built a robust international career between 2008 and 2012, playing for prestigious teams such as Cesis (Latvia), Pankup (Turkey), Basket Landes (France), Istanbul University (Turkey), and Maccabi Bnot Ashdod (Israel).

Demonstrating her ongoing commitment to the sport, Ty Young returned to the professional basketball landscape on April 17, 2024, when she was hired as an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky. This new role further extends her legacy, allowing her to share her vast experience and strategic insights from a celebrated career with the next generation of athletes.
